Bhiwandi building collapse incident: Seven more bodies recovered, toll rises to 23 | Thane News – Times of India

BHIWANDI: The death toll in the building collapse incident in Bhiwandi town in Thane district rose to 22 on Tuesday after the recovery of seven more bodies from the debris. The 43-year-old three-storey Jilani building had collapsed at 3.40 am on Monday.
Soon after the incident, the NDRF, fire brigade and police teams reached the spot and launched a massive search and rescue operation.
Those rescued from the rubble are being treated at hospitals in Bhiwandi and Thane, he added.
A rescue team said that over 15 residents are still missing.
Two civic officials have been suspended in connection with the incident and an offence has been registered against the building owner, an official said.
The building in the powerloom town – which is around 10 km from Thane – had 40 flats and around 150 persons lived there, an official said.
The building, located at Narpoli’s Patel Compound near Dhamankar Naka, collapsed while the residents were asleep.
