NAVI MUMBAI: City activists have reminded all housing societies not to hold annual or special general meetings in their societies, due to Covid guidelines as per the state GR (government resolution). Recently, a Koparkhairane-based society had announced a meeting this month, but following the intervention of the local police, it was cancelled.
With over 31000 positive cases in the city, the municipal commissioner, Abhijit Bangar, has also urged societies and all citizens to strictly maintain social distancing, to prevent the spread of the pandemic.
“My mother, Rama Gupta, who is a society member in Koparkhairane, had objected to the recent announcement to have a special general body meeting on September 20. Thankfully, the local police immediately sent back a letter to the society stating that as per the Maharashtra GR and other preventive measures for Covid, they should not have any such meeting in the premises. Hence, the special general body meeting is now cancelled,” said Koparkhairane resident, Anurag Gupta.
City activist, Surendra Gowda, commented: “The recent state GR for Mission Begin Again has stated that except for essential services, there should not be any large gathering of people. Even for weddings, the number of guests must not be more than 50. Hence, it is the right decision taken by the Koparkhairane based housing society to cancel its planned meet.”
Gowda further added: “Through NMMC, we are also trying to spread more awareness among societies about maintaining social distancing, and also keeping hand sanitizers at the entrance of each society. This is important to fight back coronavirus.”
