According to the IMD, the Colaba observatory recorded 4 mm rain between 8.30am and 8.30pm.
In the same duration, Shivaji Park recorded 75.4 mm, Chembur 79.2 mm, Dahisar 68.5 mm, Sanpada 73.6 mm and Nerul 78.1 mm rain. A yellow alert – heavy rain at isolated places – was in place for the city and Thane on Monday.
The IMD classifies 2.5 to 15.5 mm rain as light, 15.6 mm to 64.4 mm rain as moderate and 64.5 to 115.5 mm rain as heavy rainfall. “Mumbai and around received moderate to heavy falls at many places in the 12 hours ending at 8.30 pm. Intermittent intense spells were observed during the day time. The trend is likely to continue into the night,” said KS Hosalikar, deputy director-general (western region), IMD.
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a green alert – light to moderate rain- for Mumbai for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The rain activity is likely to once again pick up on Friday as a yellow alert is in place.
