THANE: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Sandeep Deshpande and three party colleagues were arrested by the crime branch of the Mumbai railway police from Karjat, Tuesday early morning, and later released on bail by the railway court.
The railway police had late Monday evening registered cases against the four for allegedly travelling without permissions in a local train between Shelu and Neral on the Kalyan-Karjat line. It is learnt the four managed to bypass the regular entry point at Shelu station and board a train Monday. After the railway police was alerted of the situation, they registered a case against them at Karjat railway police station.
“We were hot on the chase of the four since yesterday. The Karjat railway police had registered a case against him under relevant sections of the Indian penal Code, Indian Railways Act, National Disaster Management Act, 2005 and the Maharashtra Covid-19 Regulations Act. We were informed of their presence in the Karjat area so we laid a trap and subsequently arrested them while they were trying to escape to Mumbai. We presented them before the railway court that sent them to magistrate custody and later approved their bail application,” informed senior inspector Uttam Sonawane, Mumbai railway crime branch.
It may be recalled that MNS had announced their protest wherein they would travel by local trains to protest the state government imposed restrictions on train travel citing how office goers and labourers were spending hours commuting by road.
