THANE: The Mumbra ward has reported zero Covid positive cases, Tuesday, for the third time in a month revealed civic records making the suburb that was once a hotspot, a role model now, for others to emulate in Covid management.
MLA Jitendra Awhad attributed the impressive record to sustained civic surveillance and alertness shown by local general practioners in identifying suspect patients and giving them prompt treatment in addition to residents developing herd immunity here. The suburb first reported zero cases on Sunday, August 9 and later on August 22.
“…#Mumbra for the third time recorded zero #coronavirus patients. Credit goes to doctors, frontline workers and offcourse the citizens and not to forget @TMCaTweetAway and @ThaneCityPolice. Praying that the state and the nation reaches the same record,” Awhad tweeted late on Tuesday.
“This is the third time that zero cases were reported here. The suburb has been registering very few cases since the last few weeks usually in single digits,” said a civic official at the Thane corporation.
It may be noted the suburb reported a spike in cases in the initial days of the pandemic with the daily numbers here accounting for a lion’s share of the total cases across the city. Lack of adherence to safety norms by residents in this dense suburb with structures standing cheek by jowl and hesitation amongst residents to get tested was one of the most talked about reasons for the spike in cases here which was eventually overcome, said officials.
It may be noted that chief minister Uddhav Thackeray had on Monday lauded the recovery rate in Thane and also cautioned residents to not remain casual but stay alert. He also suggested the corporations to set up more facilities as he inaugurated two hopsitals, one each at Kalwa and Mumbra.
Meanwhile, Awhad said he was happy the facilities came up but was more glad that they were rendered useless due to lack patients. “We spent Rs 25 cr to set up these facilities but I pray that residents remain healthy and never have to use these units at all,” he said while talking to TOI.
