Pakistan pace great Shoaib Akhtar feels that Mohammad Hafeez should have confronted the PCB after his private test for Covid-19 did not match with the result of the test conducted by the board rather than posting the contradictory results on social media.

Hafeez was among the 10 Pakistan cricketers who tested positive for Covid-19 but he decided to take a second opinion on his own, the result of which turned out to be negative. However, Hafeez’s decision to take a private test did not go down well with the PCB as the board CEO Wasim Khan also lashed out at the batsman for not consulting with the board before taking such step.

“PCB showed a bit of mismanagement, we just started doing random testing of players, now players have tested positive for coronavirus, the worst-hit area due to coronavirus is maybe Lahore, then it is Karachi. I am sure that if you keep on testing, you will get more and more positive results,” Shoaib Akhtar said on his YouTube channel.

“Now, the tests are done, my advice to Hafeez was to go for the retest, but he should not have posted the result of his second Test on Twitter, he should have confronted the PCB, you should not get on bad terms with the board. The tour of England is important for Pakistan, we need to send our solid team there if we want to win the Test series.”

Hafeez, however, was among the 6 Pakistan cricketers who returned negative in PCB’s retests. However, he, along with the other 10 cricketers, who initially tested positive for the deadly Covid-19, did not travel with Pakistan’s 20-man squad that left for England on Sunday. The 10 cricketers, along with one support staff, will be tested again and would be sent to the UK later if their results return negative again.

The players who were tested negative in tests were Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Rizwan, Shadab Khan, and Wahab Riaz.

The cricketers who were once again tested positive for Covid-19 were Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, Kashif Bhatti and Imran Khan. Malang Ali, who is part of the support staff also tested positive.
