NAVI MUMBAI: A 47-year-old head constable of Navi Mumbai Police died of Covid-19 on Monday at the Vashi-based Fortis hospital.
He was posted with the coastal security branch and had been admitted to hospital on June 18.
Police commissioner, Sanjay Kumar, has informed that the head constable had been bravely fighting the virus, but unfortunately, he passed away on Monday. He also offered his heartfelt condolences to the head constable’s family members.
“Our deepest condolences for the loss of police head constable who passed away while fighting coronavirus. We pray for his soul to rest in peace. We are standing by his family during this time of grief,” read the post of the Navi Mumbai Police’s Twitter handle.

Just last week, on July 9, commissioner Kumar had tweeted: “Police department is also facing the brunt of Covid. Till yesterday (July 8) 183 police officers and men were diagnosed positive out of which 131 recovered and 52 are undergoing treatment. Besides, 101 family members were positive they are also recovering well”.

With the latest death of the police personnel, the total toll within the NMMC area on Monday went up to 305.
