GREATER NOIDA: The Film City project, which will come up on 1,000 acres off the Yamuna Expressway, could be named “Infotainment City”, officials said. The project will not just incorporate a shooting facility, but will also have modern equipment for editing, sound mixing, animation and VFX.
On Sunday, additional chief secretary Avnish Awasthi visited the Sector 21 site and discussed ways to improve connectivity. The area is just 6km from the upcoming Jewar airport and located off the Mathura-Agra-Jaipur heritage corridor. An interchange will be built between sectors 21 and 28 to link the site with the Yamuna Expressway and tenders have been floated for it, the officials said
The consultant for the project will be selected by Film Bandhu, the government’s nodal agency for implementing the UP film policy. “The additional chief secretary inspected the area and asked us to prepare a proposal listing the requirements for the project,” said Shailendra Bhatia, additional CEO of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA).
Arun Vir Singh, the YEIDA CEO, said the Film City would be built on a public-private partnership model. “The additional chief secretary informed us that Film Bandhu will prepare the project report and select the consultant too. The process has already been initiated. We will now have to prepare a proposal specifying how much government subsidy we would require, the types of common facility centres that can be developed, land allotment details, connectivity, etc. We will place our proposals at the board meeting next week,” he said.
Singh said the Film City would also have an institute for film studies. “It will be a modern, state of the art film city, with all the required equipment, studios, outdoor locations, hotels, restaurants, amusement parks, shopping complexes, convention centres etc. The focus will be on digital platforms apart from routine filming. So, digital studios, VFX and animation would be encouraged here. There are talks to name the project ‘Infotainment City’,” said Singh. He added that local artistes would also be given opportunities in the project.
