KALYAN: Three hawkers have been booked for allegedly assaulting Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation(KDMC) staff for asking to pay fine for using banned plastic in Kalyan.
The KDMC since a month is strictly implementing ban of plastic use below 50 microns in the twin city for which they have formed special teams.
The police said the team led by Jagganath Vadde on Wednesday upon noticing hawker Shoeb Qureshi giving banned plastic bag to a customer caught him red handed near Laxmi marketing Kalyan.
Police said when Vadde asked Qureshi to pay fine of Rs 5,000 for using ban plastic, it irked Qureshi who, along with two unidentified hawkers attacked Vadde and his team members.
NK Bankar, senior police inspector of Mahatma Phule police station said, “We have booked three accused under different section of Indian Penal Code and search is on for trio accused who is on the run”.
The KDMC’s deputy municipal commissioner Ramdas Kokare recently has started garbage and plastic- free campaign in the twin city. The KDMC along with raising awareness have collected fine of Rs 2.54 lakh from shopkeepers in last 18 days for using ban plastic.
