The rescheduled Paralympics will begin exactly a year from now, on August 24, 2021, in the Japanese capital of Tokyo; and India’s national badminton coach Pullela Gopichand sent his best wishes to the para-athletes on the occasion.
In a video tweeted by the Paralympic Committee of India president Deepa Malik, Gopichand can be heard motivating the para-athletes with a special message.
“Wishing all the para-athletes all the very best. There is one year left, from today, before the start of Paralympics. Until now, Paralympians have done a great service to the nation. I hope next year at this time, when the Paralympics begin, our country will support the athletes with enthusiasm,” said Gopichand.
Thanking the badminton guru in her tweet, Deepa wrote: “As president @ParalympicIndia, I thank legendary P. Gopichand for his wonderful wishes to entire Para Sports fraternity!”

The International Olympic Committee had earlier this year postponed the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics to 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Paralympics are now scheduled for August 24 to September 5, 2021. The Olympics will be held before that, from July 23 to August 8.
